The First and Second Amendments

I’m a firm believer in the Constitution of the United States and I’ve taken the Oath many times in my life to protect and defend, so it goes without saying that I fully support the First and Second Amendments.

The founding fathers framed the constitution to give our country freedoms from the oppression's that they experienced under English rule.

The First Amendment states that  Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Yet here in Minnesota and throughout the United States, there are those who would limit or eliminate the right of the people to peaceably assemble to address their grievances with the government.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I was a soldier and firmly believe that each citizen has the right to bear Arms.  A well regulated Militia was necessary for the times. After all, they had just fought for their independence and were creating a new nation.  As forward thinking as many of the founding fathers were, they could have never envisioned the development of weapons of today. They could have never imagined that these weapons would be used to kill:

The 32 People killed April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech.

The 27 Babies killed December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The 49 People killed June 12, 2016 Pulse Nightclub.

Current Gun Laws need to be enforced when applicable and Sensible New Laws need to be enacted.  There is no reason any citizen to own or privately possess Military Style weapons and weapons capable of producing mass casualties that have caused such devastation in our country over the past decades.

Let's talk about it.
